......For the second year running Gil-lec has been voted UK Electrical Wholesaler of the Year!
Judged by the industry journal, The Electrical Times, the Electrical Industry Awards recognise organisations’ achievements in such areas as customer service levels, company growth and staff development.
“Gil-lec’s success in this year’s awards is a tremendous achievement as the number and overall standard of entries was the highest the awards has seen to date”, said Ben Cronin, chief editor of The Electrical Times.
This year’s award comes at a time of difficult economic conditions for all businesses, but particularly those related to the Building industry. Forseeing the impending crisis, Gil-lec entered the emerging low energy relamping market in early 2009. Re-training the whole sales force and approaching an entirely new market, Gil-lec were thus able to negate the effects of the contraction of its traditional market segments.
Gil-lec has come a long way in the 25 years since it was established in 1985. Originally a small, independent electrical wholesaler serving a local market, Gil-lec now supplies customers across the globe with clients all over Europe, Russia, USA, and even Madagascar!
Finalists in 2007, Gil-lec first won the title of Wholesaler of the Year twelve months later in 2008, the judges making paricular reference to the organisation’s focus on customer service and internal learning culture provision. The 2009 title recognises Gil-lec’s diversificaton strategy which helped it achieve very positive growth in what has been a difficult year.
Now back to back winners, the team at Gil-lec will not be resting on their laurels and have big plans for 2010. ..Who knows, maybe this time next year they’ll be celebrating a hatrick!

Wholesaler of the Year 2008

At a glittering award ceremony in London's Grosvenor Square Marriott, Gil-lec Electrical Wholesalers were last night awarded the prestigious title of UK Electrical Wholesaler of the Year.
Compered by TV comedian Fred McCauley from 'Have I Got News For You!?' and 'Mock the Week', the Electrical Industry Awards, hosted by The Electrical Times, recognise outstanding excellence in the UK Electrical Industry.
After clinching runner's up place in 2007, we were naturally delighted that the efforts of the last 12 months earnt us top spot in 2008. The last year has indeed represented a seminal period for Gil-lec, launching the new ecommerce site in June 07 and opening the brand new dedicated web distribution warehouse in October of last year.
Recognising our devotion to providing the best customer experience, the judges commented "Gil-lec's excellence in customer service is evidenced by the outstanding number and sincerity of customers' testimonials".
